Internet Librarian International 2006

Committee member and CILIP councillor Karen Blakeman is flying the UKeiG flag at the Internet Librarian International conference being held in London on October 16th-17th. Karen's talk on 'Out-Googling Google: Finding what Google Misses' is timetabled for the October 17th afternoon track on Internet Search Intricacies. Other speakers in the track are Stephen Arnold (What'’s New with Search), and Jenny Levine and Michael Stephens (Creating Communities, Interacting with Users).

The whole conference promises to be a real humdinger with Danny Quah from the London School of Economics kicking off the event with an opening keynote on The Knowledge Glut. Greg Notess, the man behind Search Engine Showdown, opens the second day with Reinventing Ourselves as Internet Librarians. Sessions include Web 2.0 and Library 2.0, Wikis and Social Software, Open Access Open Source, Digitisation Discoveries, Management techniques for Internet Librarians, e-Learning and Information Literacy, and Electronic Resources. As well as formal presentations there are case studies, discussion sessions and ample opportunity for networking with other delegates.

If you are a CILIP member there is a special 20% discount off the full two-day conference fee for CILIP members: £324.00 + £56.70 VAT. If not, then you'll need to get your skates on to qualify for the 22nd September deadline for the early bird discount: first person £395.00 + VAT; second person and all additional registrants £237.00 + VAT. After September 22nd the rates go up to £405.00 + VAT for the first person and £243.00 + VAT for additional delegates.
