Internet Librarian International 2008: Translating 2.0 Technologies for Tangible Benefits & Transparency

Early Bird Registration for this conference ends on 24th September. UKeiG are supporters of the event and Hon Sec Karen Blakeman will be giving a presentation on tips for more effective searching of the web and new technologies.

As a workplace tool the internet has become embedded in our professional lives. Whatever type of library, the challenge is to evaluate technologies in the light of their benefits to our business environments. Now in its 10th year, Internet Librarian International continues to place emphasis on the practical rather than the theoretical.

Topics for 2008 include:

• Library 2.0 and Web 2.0: learn how these technologies work in reality - not just theory - and how they affect your library
• Search analytics: without measurement, do you know how effective your projects are and whether you're reaching the right audience?
• Information search and discovery: the search world continues to evolve - get a grip on what these changes mean to you and your organisation
• Transparency: much of 2.0 revolves around collaboration and transparency, so why are some institutions more prone to adopting transparency than others?

We're delighted that UKeiG is to support Internet Librarian International 2008.

The conference takes place in London on 16 & 17 October 2008 and has just broadcast its call for speakers. Celebrating its 10th birthday in 2008, Internet Librarian International's theme this year is "Translating 2.0 Technologies for Tangible Benefits & Transparency".

Practical papers evaluating technologies in light of their benefits are welcomed and we seek dynamic speakers willing to share their knowledge and experience about information tools, techniques, processes and management. How do information professionals translate various 2.0 technologies so they provide real value to people in all types of information environments?

They are looking for a mix of papers for conference sessions, workshops and short tutorials with the emphasis on the practical rather than theoretical. They are seeking case studies and proposals about initiatives in your organisation, not product pitches or overviews.

Nine years after the first Internet Librarian International, it is clear that internet technologies have vastly altered our professional and personal lives.
