Internet Librarian International starts next week

The 9th annual Internet Librarian International takes place in London on 8–9 October 2007 at the Copthorne Tara Hotel.

UKeiG are supporters of the event and will be at the exhibition, so drop by and say hello!

The new realities of electronic research affect every part of the work life of information professionals. This year’s theme, New Realities, Roles and Resources, reflects the upheaval in the profession and in the world of electronic information. As the internet and search become ingrained in the minds of not only information professionals but also of our clients, customers, patrons, users and other constituencies, we must constantly re-evaluate what we do and how we do it.

With emphasis on the practical rather than the theoretical, the speakers and exhibition address the new realities we face, suggest new roles we can play, and explore important new resources and tools we can immediately add to our information professional toolbox. By attending Internet Librarian International, you can learn vital insight and knowledge to help you excel at your job.

The final conference programme is available online.

You can also register online. Remember, there is a special discount for CILIP members.

See you in London!

Part of Internet Librarian International, these half-day master classes are small, interactive work groups designed to maximise your professional learning experience. Each session is run by experienced, expert instructors who are practicing librarians and information professionals.

International Business Information Resources
10:00 – 13:00
As business becomes increasingly global and information is more widely available, finding accurate and comprehensive company, industry, market and economic information is a vital skill. This Class will present a wide array of resources and tools to help you solve global business research issues. Find business research resources, company and industry information sources, and learn the cultural and legal differences in the global business research process, as well as the language challenges.

Repositories and Digital Initiatives
10:00 – 13:00
Librarians who lead the way in implementing repositories become active partners in the dissemination process and guarantee their future relevance.Institutional digital repositories are all the rage, but not all repositories are created equal. Implementing and maintaining an institutional repository raises complex questions about organisational resources, strategies, roles and responsibilities. This Class will help you identify the critical issues involved in setting up an institutional digital repository, including coverage of software, data migration and standards.

Using Blogs Effectively within Your Organisation
14:00 – 17:00
This Class will offer real user experiences of blogs and blogging in library settings. Starting with a few blog fundamentals; background, blog-specific search tools, and blog aggregators, the Class moves on to the selection of software and hosting; policy and procedural considerations, such as blog scope, writing style and frequency of publication and, finally, discusses how to measure the success of your blogging, focusing on user feedback, return on investment and impact assessment.

Communicating, Influencing and Negotiating for Results: The Human Face of Collaboration
14:00 – 17:00
Communicating, influencing and negotiating are fundamental life skills. Not only do these skills feature prominently in day-to-day business, they also permeate everyday life; without them, it is impossible to succeed. This Class will develop your ability to practice communicating, influencing and negotiating skills in an age when collaborating in a networked environment demands more than technical skills.
