Update on UKeiG membership data and status

An update on the earlier blog posting about membership and data.

Having also posted this on LIS-UKeiG and the UKeiG blog, we have had a message from a CILIP member who thought they were a UKeiG member. She had not appeared on any membership lists received by us at UKeiG so she checked her details on the CILIP web site. She found that two of the groups she thought she had joined were not listed. She contacted the CILIP membership team and was told that "the synchronisation of database and records is not complete". A similar experience has been reported by a second UKeiG/CILIP member. So I am not sure how useful it will be to check your CILIP membership record online.

UKeiG membership data and status

As some of you may know, CILIP has implemented a new membership database. CARE has replaced ADLIB and CILIP membership data has now been transferred to the new system. Unfortunately there are still some teething troubles, which are being addressed, but this means that some of the information we receive from CILIP about UKeiG members is not always correct. For example, some UKeiG members have been listed as renewed in one report, lapsed in the next, then new or resigned! All discrepancies are reported to CILIP and they are working on resolving these problems.

As UKeiG maintains its own membership database, we can quickly identify inconsistencies in the data from CILIP. We have contacted many of those affected by the gremlins in order to confirm their membership status. If you have renewed your UKeiG membership through CILIP but are no longer receiving mailings from us, or your UKeiG user name and password no longer work, please contact Christine Baker (cabaker@ukeig.org.uk). She will be able to tell you your current UKeiG membership status as relayed to us by CILIP.

You can check your CILIP membership record via the CILIP web site (http://www.cilip.org.uk/) by logging in to 'My Profile'.

Online payment options for UKeiG membership

UKeiG now offers electronic payment options for direct membership subscriptions and renewals. Anyone wishing to join UKeiG or renew their personal, student or unwaged membership direct with UKeiG can pay online via PayPal. You can use either your credit/debit card or PayPal account. Personal subscription rates are £25 a year and £10 a year for students and unwaged. (You do not have to be a member of CILIP to be a member of UKeiG).

If you are a member of CILIP - the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals - you can join via CILIP by specifying UKeiG as one of your Special Interest Groups.
