New EU privacy rules worry business, says Financial Times

Submitted by Chris Armstrong on 24 January, 2012 - 10:40

The FT Technology Section piece begins: "Businesses are bracing for a radical overhaul of European Union privacy rules to be unveiled this week, which some fret could result in costly burdens and large fines for errant companies." Far-reaching changes that will effect the ways that businesses handle personal data are forecast. Among the most difficult in the draft of the privacy proposals seen by the Financial Times, are the need for companies to get the explicit consent from the people whose data they are processing, and - for companies offering online services - a newly created “right to be forgotten”.
