Data Collection
UKeiG only collects personally identifiable information that is voluntarily provided by visitors to the UKeiG site. Purposes for which identifying information is collected include:
- registration for member-only areas of the site
- requests for further information
- booking a place on a UKeiG seminar/workshop
- membership application
- newsletter subscription
UKeiG has links to other web sites; we are not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of those web sites.
Opt-out Consent
In accordance with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998, we provide the opportunity for you to opt out of certain types of usage of your personal data when supplied to us via registration and order forms. Should you wish your personal data to be removed from our records or updated at a later date, you can request this by contacting Val Skelton. Verification of identity will be requested from the data subject before data is removed or amended.
Use of data
Any data gathered through the UKeiG web site is usually used for internal purposes only. UKeiG does, from time to time, conduct mailings on behalf of other library and information organisations. These are incorporated into the regular hard copy flyers mailings. These mailings are handled by UKeiG's distribution agents and no data is disclosed to other organisations. If you do not wish to receive this additional marketing material, please tick the appropriate box on the relevant forms or contact our administrative person, Val Skelton.
UKeiG does not use personal data for unsolicited marketing activities.
E-mail newsletters
If you choose to receive the UKeiG newsletter, or other communications in electronic form, you will be given the opportunity with each mailing to opt out of receiving future e-mail communications. UKeiG does not sell, rent, or otherwise give your e-mail address to a third party without your explicit consent.
Cookies
Cookies may be used on some pages of our site. “Cookies” are small text files placed on your hard drive that, for example, can be used to store registration information. Information collected by Web servers
The UKeiG web servers automatically record general information on all users who browse the content of the UKeiG Web site. They gather:
- your IP address
- the internet domain for your Internet service, such as company.com or school.edu
- the pages you visit on the UKeiG web site and any files you download
- the date and time of your visit
- your user name when you enter a password protected area
The logs are periodically summarised and analysed to study site usage in order to help us improve the site's organisation and usefulness. They may be analysed at an individual level in order to identify and rectify any problems that a visitor may have experienced. They are also monitored to ensure that there is no unauthorised access to restricted areas of the site.
Copyright and usage information
The owner of the copyright on material that UKeiG publishes is displayed at the bottom of each page of the web site. Requests for permission to reprint must be submitted by letter, fax or email. Anyone is welcome to link to UKeiG 's public web pages (pages not protected by usernames and passwords).

No login is needed to use this site, but registration is free and enables you to hear about forthcoming meetings and events.
